Bernadine Burnette

Bernadine Burnette has been a leader in the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation for more than a decade, serving as a tribal officer for 14 years. Now the vice president of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Burnette applies years of experience and endless dedication to the task of ensuring a bright gaming future for the tribe.

Burnette was one of the original negotiators for the Tribal-State Compact that brought gaming to the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, and continues serving the cause as vice president of her tribe and vice chair of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association. She also serves on the Native American Advisory Board for Women Against Domestic Violence, represents the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation as a member of the Maricopa Association of Governments, and was one of the founders of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Youth Council.

Prior to taking a leadership role in the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Burnette was a federal employee, working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Phoenix. Her experiences working with tribes in Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California inspired her to run for office in the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, where she is a lifetime member.
